Drop off: Wanda Beach, Cronulla:

  • Buses can drop off along Mitchell Road, to the south of Wanda Reserve (near Wanda Beach Public Toilets and Wanda Surf Life Saving Club)
  • Disembark students from buses and meet EEC teachers in grassy area between Wanda Beach Toilets and Wanda Surf LIfe Saving Club

Buses can usually find parking along Mitchell Road.

Pick up: North Cronulla Beach Carpark, Cronulla:

  • Buses can pick students up from North Cronulla Beach Carpark (just north of North Cronulla Surf Life Saving Club, southeast corner of Prince Street)

We recommend exchanging mobile numbers with the bus driver at drop you; you may need to ring them to arrange the pick up from North Cronulla Beach Carpark.

Site details and facilities

Bus

Wanda Beach is approximately 1.5 km north of the centre of Cronulla.

Buses can drop off can drop off along Mitchell Road, to the south of Wanda Reserve, near Wanda Beach Public Toilets and Wanda Surf Life Saving Club.

We suggest exchanging mobile numbers with your bus driver to facilitate pick up from North Cronulla Beach.

Train

Catch a train to Cronulla Station, then walk to Wanda Beach Surf Life Saving Club, along the promenade at the back of the beach. The walk from is approximately 2 km. Allow at least 30 minutes for this walk.

Note the walk at the end of the day from North Cronulla Beach to Cronulla Station is approximately 1 km. Allow at least 15 minutes for this walk.

Location details

The study areas include dunes, beaches, a sea wall and built environments. The activities generally commence from Wanda. Students conduct fieldwork activities at points along the access pathways and on the beach.

Sturdy footwear is recommended. Please encourage students to carry wind/rain proof jackets. Please encourage sun safety practices. Students are in close proximity to the water at times during the day. There will be no swimming.

The greatest potential risks to students are exposure to sun, large and unexpected waves and sharps on the beach. The site is very popular for dog walkers, so students will likely encounter dogs.

It is important that students stay in view of teachers and within any specified boundaries. Vigilance is required from all participants.

The group is very likely to encounter members of the public. Supervising teachers need to be aware of where students are at all times. Child protection measures and supervision will be required when students access public toilets.

Once your booking is confirmed, we will email you a draft risk assessment and management plan to use in the preparation of your own plan. This plan details risks on excursion and controls to minimise them on the day.

There are public toilet facilities at at Wanda Surf Life Saving Club and North Cronulla Surf Life Saving Club. Students should not access public toilets alone, they should take a buddy with them.

Students can refill water bottles at taps at both public toilet facilities.
