Location details
The Honeymoon Track descends from the environmental education centre to the Hacking River, in the Audley Valley. The track is 1 km long and descends over 600 steps. There are uneven steps and rocky surfaces. Students are in close proximity to water at the Hacking River. The walk from the bottom of the track to Reids Flat is a further 0.5 km along the edge of a paved access road that leads to Reids Flat.
The area has a variety of environments, including eucalypt woodland. The activities generally begin at or near the environmental education centre, and conclude at Reids Flat.
The greatest hazards are one small cliff and vehicles on the access road from the bottom of the track to Reids Flat. Additional hazards include tree fall in high winds, snake bite, goannas and falling into the river. It is important that students keep to on tracks. Vigilance is required from all participants.
As the site has uneven steps and rocky surfaces it is recommended that sturdy footwear be worn. As areas can be without shelter, wind/rain proof jackets should be carried. Sun safety practices should be encouraged.
The group is very likely to encounter members of the public. Supervising teachers need to be aware of where students are at all times. Child protection measures and supervision will be required when students access public toilets.
Once your booking is confirmed, we will email you a draft risk assessment and management plan to use in the preparation of your own plan. This plan details risks on excursion and controls to minimise them on the day.
Facilities
There are toilet facilities at both ends of the Honeymoon Track and at Reids Flat. Younger students should be supervised by a teacher; older students should take a buddy with them.
Students can refill water bottles at taps at the environmental education centre and at Reids Flat.
