High potential and gifted education

The department is committed to ensuring equitable access to high potential and gifted education for all students, regardless of background or location.

Our school offers a diverse range of opportunities across the 4 domains of potential: creative, intellectual, physical and social-emotional.

What is high potential and gifted education?

High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.

We do this through:

Our high potential and gifted education opportunities

Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.

In our classroom

Our teaching practices support and extend high potential and gifted students:

  • Differentiated tasks that adjust pace, complexity and higher-order thinking.
  • Formative assessment to adapt learning.
  • Tasks that promote choice, authenticity, and critical and creative thinking.
  • Supportive learning environments that enable exploration and self-assessment.
  • Safe learning environments that encourage confidence, risk-taking, and perseverance.
Across our school

Our school recognises that every student is individual, and we provide flexible and diverse opportunities for students to explore and grow their strengths outside the classroom:

  • Science enrichment programs
  • Student leadership programs
  • Team building programs
  • Visual arts enrichment programs
  • Wellbeing programs
Across NSW

Statewide/NSW Department of Education level support is available for our high potential and gifted students. We support students across NSW with:

  • Enrichment and extension programs
  • Sustainability Outreach - bringing sustainability education to regional, rural and remote schools

Our high potential and gifted education opportunities are conducted as one-day workshops throughout the year, providing opportunties to extend and enrich student potential.

These programs are only available to NSW Department of Education school students. Teachers are welcome but not required to attend.

We can also support your school or community of schools in developing and delivering tailored programs to support high potential and gifted education for your students.
