Bird Olympics

This exciting event involves a full day of engaging, bird-themed activities for enthusiastic, bird-loving students, and provides an opportunity to identify and support HPGE students in the intellectual and creative domains. Don’t miss this unique opportunity for students to learn, collaborate and celebrate our feathered friends in a fun and inspiring environment! Students should be prepared to learn a native bird call before the event to perform on the day.
Schools can nominate up to 4 students from Years 3-6 that demonstrate high potential or giftedness in science, and have a passion for or interest in Australian birds.
This program is only available to NSW Department of Education school students.

Payment
Collect $25/student (GST free) at your school. We will initiate an Interschool Journal after the event to collect payment.
Medical and additional needs
Coordinating teachers must communicate medical and additional needs to the EEC prior to the program, via the student nomination form.
Permission to publish
Please indicate via the student nomination form if parents/carers have given permission to publish to the Department of Education.
Supervision
The program is run by NSW Department of Education teachers who will provide supervision for all students throughout the day. Participating schools are welcome to send a teacher to assist on the day but this is not a requirement.

Your child has been invited to attend the Bird Olympics, a bird-themed enrichment program in the intellectual and creative domains for high potential and gifted students in Years 3-6. The program will be led by NSW Department of Education teachers at the Royal National Park Environmental Education Centre. Students will explore the local environment, learn, collaborate and celebrate our feathered friends in a fun and inspiring event. Students should be prepared to learn a native bird call before the event, to perform on the day. |

| Transport: |
Parents/carers are responsible for transport to and from the Royal National Park Environmental Education Centre. Carpooling encouraged. Payment of the $12 park entry fee is not required when dropping off and picking up students (note if you choose to stay in the park for the day you will need to pay $12 park entry). |
| Dress code: | Sports uniform and sturdy, closed-in walking shoes. |
| Food: | Students must bring their own food and drink (lunch and recess). We encourage low waste food, e.g., reusable containers, no plastic wrap. |
| Please bring: | Medication (if required). Refillable water bottle. Hat. Sunscreen. Backpack. |
| Additional Information: | In the event of extreme weather or bushfire conditions, the program may be cancelled. In the case of cancellation, schools will be contacted and news will be posted on the Royal National Park Environmental Education Centre Facebook page. |
